History: The earliest text about asthma comes from Ancient Greece, where Hippocrates wrote the Corpus Hippocraticum. The first clinical description of asthma came from Aretaeus of Cappadocia in 100 AD. Galen, an Ancient Greek physician "described asthma as bronchial obstructions and treated it with owl's blood in wine" between 130-200 AD(MedicalNews). Moses Maimonides wrote Treatise of Asthma for one of his patients, where he describes his symptoms between 1135-1204 AD. Jean Baptiste Van Helmont "said that asthma originates in the pipes of the lungs" between 1579-1644(MedicalNews). Bernardino Ramazzini "detected a link between asthma and organic dust" he also recognized exercise-induced asthma between 1633-1714(MedicalNews). During the early 20th century asthma was seen as a psychosomatic disease and it was not until 1960 that asthma was seen as an inflammatory disease.
